Overview
Exporting session data allows you to move your physiological information into other programs for research, clinical review, or personal tracking. Depending on your software version and needs, you can export in JSON or XML (V2) formats.
How to Export (emWave Pro & Pro Plus)
- Open the Export Tool: From the top File menu, select Export sessions…
- Select Your Data:
- The export window will show all users in your current database.
- Click the box next to a user’s name to see their individual sessions (listed by Date, Time, and Title).
- Check the boxes for the specific sessions you want, or check the user box to select their entire history.
- Save the File: Click the Export button. A dialog box will ask for a file name and location.
- Default Location: The “emWave” folder in your Documents directory.
- Default Format: JSON.
Exporting to XML (V2 Format)
If you are using emWave2 or if you require an XML file for your specific analysis software:
- Go to Preferences.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Choose the Export to V2 Format option. This generates an XML file rather than JSON.
Important Technical Notes
- No Internal Import: It is important to note that emWave does not have an “Import” feature. These export files are intended for use in third-party programs (like Excel, specialized HRV analyzers, or web browsers) and cannot be brought back into the emWave software once exported.
- HeartCloud Alternative: If you simply want to move data between HeartMath devices or perform a backup, using HeartCloud is the recommended method as it handles synchronization automatically.
- Third-Party Viewing: JSON and XML files can be opened in most modern web browsers or text editors if you wish to view the raw data points.
