Inner Balance App: Frequently Asked Questions

Overview

Inner Balance translates the complex science of HRV into an easy-to-use mobile interface. By clipping a high-accuracy pulse sensor to your earlobe, the app can detect the subtle changes in your heart rhythm that indicate whether you are in a state of stress or coherence.

Sensors and Compatibility

  • Connection Types: You can use the Inner Balance Bluetooth sensor (Universal) or the Wired Lightning/USB-C sensors.
  • Why the Ear? The earlobe provides a clear, consistent pulse signal. HeartMath does not support using your phone’s camera for HRV, as the data quality is too low for accurate coherence analysis.
  • Background Use:
    • Bluetooth Sensor: Allows the app to run in the background while you use other apps or turn off your screen.
    • Wired Sensor: Switching apps or locking your phone will “pause” the session. You must keep the app in the forefront to record continuously.

Inner Balance vs. emWave Pro & emWave2

  • Inner Balance: A single-user mobile app. Ideal for personal use on the go.
  • emWave2: A handheld portable device that can also sync to a computer. It includes games and more detailed graphs.
  • emWave Pro: Professional software for Mac/PC. Supports Multiple Users, advanced assessments, and coherence-powered games like Dual Drive.

Common Practice Questions

  • How often should I practice? Most users see significant results in their stress levels within two weeks of regular daily practice.
  • What does coherence feel like? It is often described as a sense of “relaxed alertness,” inner calm, or a “centered” feeling.
  • Can I delete sessions? Yes, you can swipe to delete individual sessions from your history.
  • Sharing Data: You can share specific session summaries with friends or practitioners via social media or email. To sync full data to a computer, use a HeartCloud account.

Troubleshooting & Training

  • No Sensor Detected: Ensure your Bluetooth is turned on and the sensor is fully charged. For wired sensors, check the connection port for lint or debris.
  • Training Resources: HeartMath offers free Webinars and a directory of Certified Practitioners for those seeking deeper guidance.
