With Apple’s transition from Lightning to USB-C ports starting with the iPhone 15 series, users with existing Inner Balance Lightning hardware can still use their sensors on newer devices by following these compatibility requirements.
1. Supported Devices
The Inner Balance Lightning sensor is compatible with the following USB-C Apple devices:
- iPhone: iPhone 15, iPhone 16, and iPhone 17 (all models).
- iPad: All iPad Pro, iPad Air, and iPad mini models that feature a USB-C port.
2. Required Hardware: The Apple Adapter
You cannot plug the Lightning sensor directly into these devices. You must use the Apple USB-C to Lightning Adapter.
- Important: Third-party or “knock-off” adapters often do not support the data transfer protocols required for HRV sensors. We strictly recommend using the official Apple brand adapter to ensure a consistent signal.
3. Software Requirements
To ensure the adapter and sensor communicate correctly with the Inner Balance app, your device must be updated to iOS or iPadOS 17.4.1 or later.
4. Troubleshooting the Connection
If your app does not recognize the sensor when using the adapter:
- Firmware: Occasionally, the Apple adapter itself may require a firmware update, which typically happens automatically when connected to an internet-enabled iPhone or iPad.
- Seating: Ensure the adapter is pushed firmly into the phone’s USB-C port (some thick phone cases may prevent a full connection).
- Restart: If the sensor isn’t detected, close the Inner Balance app, unplug the adapter, wait 5 seconds, and reconnect.
5. Alternative: Inner Balance Coherence Plus
If you frequently upgrade your devices, consider the Inner Balance Coherence Plus. This is our latest universal sensor that connects via Bluetooth (compatible with both iOS and Android) or via a direct USB-C cable, eliminating the need for adapters.
