emWave2 Battery & Charging FAQ

To maximize the lifespan of your emWave2 battery and ensure your device is always ready for a session, refer to the following frequently asked questions.

1. How do I know the battery is low?

The emWave2 provides both visual and auditory alerts:

  • Audio: A 3-tone chime will sound. As the battery gets lower, this chime will repeat more frequently.
  • Visual: The sensor button or the lights on the Heart Action Strip may behave erratically or fail to stay lit when you attempt to start a session.

2. How do I charge the emWave2?

  1. Connect the included USB cable to the bottom of the emWave2.
  2. Plug the other end into a computer USB port or a standard USB wall charger.
  3. The Charging Animation: You will see the lights on the front of the device “climb” upward, indicating that charging is in progress.
  4. Full Charge: When the battery is 100% full, the charging animation stops, and all five lights on the Heart Action Strip will remain lit.

3. What is the expected battery lifespan?

The emWave2 battery is designed to last for several years of regular use. To maintain its capacity:

  • Don’t let it sit empty: If you aren’t using the device, try to charge it at least once every few months. Lithium-Ion batteries can be damaged if they are left completely discharged for long periods.
  • Avoid Extreme Heat: Do not leave your emWave2 in a hot car, as high temperatures degrade battery health quickly.

4. Can I replace the battery?

The battery in the emWave2 is internal and not user-replaceable. Opening the device will void your warranty. If your device no longer holds a charge and is within the warranty period, please contact HeartMath Support for a replacement or repair.

5. Troubleshooting Charging Issues

If your device won’t charge:

  • Try a different cable: USB cables can fail over time.
  • Check the port: Ensure the charging port on the bottom of the device is free of lint or debris.
  • Reset the device: Sometimes a “stuck” device just needs to be plugged into a computer running the emWave2 software to reset its charging logic.
