Understanding Inner Balance Analytics and Data Collection

When using Inner Balance (version 3.13 or higher), you may be invited to share anonymous session data. This data helps HeartMath maintain accurate scientific reports and improve the app experience for everyone.

Overview of Data Collection

During the installation or update of Inner Balance (v3.13+), you will see an invitation to participate in our analytics program. This program is designed to gather broad, anonymous data points to ensure our normative reports—which compare user data to scientific benchmarks—remain as accurate as possible.

What Information is Collected?

If you provide permission, HeartMath collects the following key session metrics:

  • Coherence Results: Your scores (Low, Medium, High).

  • Session Metrics: The total time and length of your practice.

  • Settings: The challenge level used during the session.

  • Demographics: Age and gender.

What is NOT Collected?

Your privacy is our priority. We do not collect “personally identifiable information” (PII) for these reports. Specifically:

  • No Names

  • No Locations/GPS Data

  • No Contact Information

How the Data is Used

The gathered information is strictly used for scientific and maintenance purposes:

  • Normative Data Accuracy: Ensuring the “average” coherence benchmarks in the app reflect our global user base.

  • Research Comparison: Comparing app results with independent clinical studies.

  • Feature Development: Improving future versions of the app based on how users interact with challenge levels and session lengths.

Your Choices and Control

  • Participation is Optional: You are not required to share your data to use any features of the Inner Balance app. You can decline the invitation during setup without any impact on app functionality.

  • Anonymous & Secure: All data remains completely anonymous and is never shared, distributed, or sold to third parties.

  • Change Your Settings: You can toggle this feature on or off at any time. To change your preference:

    1. Open the Inner Balance app.

    2. Tap Settings.

    3. Select App and Sensor Info.

    4. Adjust your analytics preference.
