Overview
While the HeartMath and Inner Balance mobile apps focus on real-time Coherence (the pattern of your heart rhythm), many users want to track raw HRV metrics like RMSSD (Root Mean Square of Successive Differences) and SDNN to monitor recovery and parasympathetic nervous system activity.
Where to find RMSSD and SDNN
To view these specific values, you must use the emWave Pro Plus desktop software. The standard mobile apps and standard emWave Pro do not display these clinical-grade time-domain metrics.
Step-by-Step Instructions
- Conduct an HRV Assessment: Use your HeartMath sensor (the Inner Balance Coherence Plus is recommended for the highest sampling rate) with the emWave Pro Plus software.
- Generate an Assessment Report: Once a session is complete, go to the Reports menu and select HRV Assessment. This will generate a PDF summary explicitly listing:
- RMSSD (measured in milliseconds)
- SDNN
- Frequency Domain Power (VLF, LF, HF)
- Export Data for Comparison: If you wish to compare your HeartMath data with other devices (like Oura, Whoop, or Apple Watch):
- Go to File > Export Assessment.
- Choose the CSV format.
- The exported file will contain a summary of your RMSSD and a list of every Live IBI (Inter-Beat Interval) for external analysis.
